Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco are three different promises
Xiaomi sells under three badges and supports them for markedly different lengths, so the brand name on the box tells you very little on its own. Xiaomi-badged flagships such as the 14 and 15 series, along with the 14T and 15T, receive four Android upgrades and five years of security patches. Redmi Note Pro and Pro+ models sit lower at roughly three upgrades and four years. Poco phones vary widely — the Poco X7 Pro carries three upgrades and four years to January 2029, while cheaper Poco and Redmi models often get two and three. Always check the specific model rather than assuming the range shares a policy.
Watch for the 4G and 5G versions of the same name
Xiaomi frequently sells near-identically named phones with different chipsets and different connectivity, and the listings rarely make the distinction obvious. The Redmi Note 14 and Redmi Note 14 5G are the clearest current example: they look alike and share a name, but only one has a 5G modem. Before buying, confirm the chipset — a MediaTek Dimensity part indicates 5G, while a Helio part generally does not — because this is a hardware difference that no update will resolve, and it affects how useful the phone will be for the length of its support window.
How to check a Xiaomi phone's patch level
Open Settings, then About phone, and tap the Android version panel to see the security patch date. Xiaomi's HyperOS delivers patches reasonably promptly on flagship models but is slower across Redmi and Poco, where quarterly cadence is common. Use the table below to find your model's recorded end-of-support date; because Xiaomi does publish its windows, the dates recorded here for most models are official commitments rather than estimates, which makes them more dependable than the equivalents for Tecno or Infinix.
